Wordplay #24
April 9, 2009
Alex Scott, Meg Dunn, Crazy Elf, Nikki Patin
April 2009 saw an international flavour, as Chicago soul singer, hip-hop poet, and slam mistress Nikki Patin hit Wordplay’s stage at the end of an Australasian tour. It’s always a thrill to get a completely new voice, and if you listen to her recordings, you can safely say that Nikki hit all the right buttons and sent the crowd home buzzing. Spoken word prodigy Alex Scott gave a blistering introductory set in his second Wordplay show, and it was bizarre to think that he’d only taken up writing poems a few months beforehand. Meg Dunn calmed things down with a sample taste of her award-winning spoken word show Brave, chronicling twelve hours across a Melbourne night, and Crazy Elf was his ever-combative and controversial self in combining World of Warcraft, illegal sex tourism, and friendly jellyfish death hugs.
